Healing for the Soul

Christian and Spiritual Counseling

Faith can be a personal and important part of our identity. Upon invitation, we can incorporate faith-based and spiritual components to therapy. This type of approach combines truths from the Christian tradition with the techniques of therapy to improve mental health.

Some of these principles include:

  • Every person has inherent dignity and worth.

  • Because of the nature of the world, we all experience distortions of ourselves, other people, the world, and God.

  • These distortions can lead to mental and emotional distress.

  • Mental and emotional distress is not a result of weakness, and the old adages of “just pray more and read your bible,” may not be enough to get out of it.

  • Therapy can help us recognize and restore our authentic identity.

The Christian tradition and the church have not always navigated the waters of mental illness and LGBTQ+ inclusion well. Progressive Christian therapists continue to help disrupt myths around God’s role in suffering, sin, or a lack of faith impacting mental health, and the spiritual aspects of our cognitive distortions. Christian counseling brings in practices that address the spiritual components of distress.

Faith-based practices

  • Mindful Presence: Prayer of Examine, Lectio Divina

  • Discernment

  • Prayer: Breath Prayer, Surrendering Worry

  • Expansion Brainspotting for Spiritual Clarity and Questions

For Those Experiencing Ministry Burnout, Faith Deconstruction, or Spiritual Trauma

Ministry burnout, spiritual trauma, or faith deconstruction can be very painful. Often these experiences cut to the very core of our identity; heart, mind, soul, and strength. Christian Counseling can explore the loss of these experiences and work toward healing and growth. Components of CBT, Brainspotting, boundary setting, and coping skills can be used to bring restoration.

All are Welcomed Here
